    The comments about baby boomers being a catalyst for this sort of thing seem quite pertinent. I suspect (although I have no evidence to suport my suspicion) that previous generations held a cutural assumption that growing old was a gradual process of decline, but that the middle-aged of today (and its youth as well) will be much more demanding and self-assertive about the ways they grow old, including the desire to keep their brains active.

    I think the challenge is for society to find ways to enable this to happen.
